Gamboa sues attacker

? Kansas City Royals coach Tom Gamboa filed a lawsuit Friday against the man who ran onto the field at U.S. Cellular Field with his son last season and attacked him.

The lawsuit was filed in Cook County Circuit Court against William Ligue Jr. of Alsip, as well as the security firm and concessionaire at the ballpark at the time of the attack.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Gamboa is asking for more than $200,000 in damages from Ligue, Illinois SportService Inc., a subsidiary of Buffalo, N.Y.-based Delaware North Companies, and SDI Security Inc., which provides security at the ballpark.

Telephone calls to North Companies after business hours Friday were not answered. Ligue and officials of SDI Security were unavailable for comment.

Gamboa was coaching first base in a game with the Chicago White Sox in September 2002 when Ligue, 35, and his then 15-year-old son ran onto the field and beat Gamboa, leaving him with a loss of hearing.

Ligue was sentenced last month to 30 months’ probation on two counts of aggravated battery. He also must perform community service, attend parenting classes, remain in a substance abuse program and abide by a curfew for 90 days.

Ligue’s son was sentenced to five years’ probation and 30 hours of community service.
