Clifford W. Houk

? Services for Clifford W. Houk, 79, Oskaloosa, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Stull Cemetery.

Mr. Houk died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Stull, the son of George and Emma (Walter) Houk. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1941. He moved from Stull to Oskaloosa in 1972.

Mr. Houk was a dairy farmer at the family dairy, where he had been a co-owner and operator of CAJ Dairy southeast of Oskaloosa since 1972. He had formerly operated a dairy in Stull. He was a member of Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. He was a former mayor of Oskaloosa, former Jefferson County commissioner and had served on the board of directors for Mutual Savings Assn. and on extension councils for both Douglas and Jefferson counties. He was a former community leader for the Stull Busy Beavers Club and the Jolly Juniors 4-H Club in Jefferson County.

He married Phyllis Irene Forrester on June 4, 1944, in Stull. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, John, Oskaloosa; a daughter, Mary Smith, Topeka; a brother, Ralph, Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Hazel Wise, Raytown, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Two sons died earlier, Allen Jay on Aug. 17, 2003, and Steven in infancy.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church.
