100 homes planned for development near Farmland

The redevelopment of part of the former Farmland Industries fertilizer plant east of Lawrence is set to begin soon.

A group led by Lawrence developers Doug Compton and Bill Newsome have filed plans to build a new housing development on the southwest corner of Kansas Highway 10 and O’Connell Road.

The land, which is directly south of the vacant Farmland fertilizer plant, was part of the buffer ground the company maintained around the plant, which was closed in May of 2001.

The preliminary plans for the property call for approximately 100 homes to be built on the 55-acre site.
