Central United Methodist
Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass., will be host to its second annual Fall Fun Festival from 4 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
The community is welcome to come and enjoy games, a moonwalk, prizes, free hot dogs, popcorn and sno-cones on the church grounds.

Faith Church of the Nazarene
An adult Bible fellowship study, “Parables and Prophecy: The Literature of the Bible,” has begun at Faith Church of the Nazarene, 1020 Kasold Drive.
The community is welcome to attend this fellowship study, which meets from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sundays, or an ongoing study of the Bible’s Book of Romans that meets at the same time. Classes for all ages are 9:30 a.m. Sundays at the church. A nursery will be provided during the classes, as well as during 10:45 a.m. services.
Special worship services will be at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The Rev. Wayne Rose of Olathe will speak at all five services. Nursery will provided, and a covered-dish supper will be at 5 p.m. Sunday before the evening service.

First United Methodist Church
United Methodist Men will be host to a pancake feed at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Cost is $4 for adults, $3 per child for pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee. Third child eats free. Proceeds will go to the Adopt-a-Family Christmas and Boy Scout projects.
The United Methodist Women’s Connection Event will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Members of United Methodist Women at the Topeka Correctional Facility will present a skit on restorative justice and will answer questions as the group examines “Faith in Action: Ministry to Incarcerated Families.”
The fall retreat for youth ministries (grades seven through 12) will be Sept. 20-21 at Camp Chippewa, just outside Ottawa.
The focus is how to build a closer relationship with God and others. Cost is $35 per person.

First Presbyterian Church
The youth of the congregation will lead worship at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.
The community is invited to enjoy ice cream and a talent show at 3 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall, followed by 5 p.m. worship.

Heartland Medical Clinic
Heartland Medical Clinic, a ministry of Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt., will celebrate its fourth anniversary Oct. 10. The clinic, which offers free, basic medical care to the uninsured, is growing rapidly and seeking a new facility. The clinic will be closed Oct. 10, but will be open Oct. 9.

Immanuel Lutheran Childhood Center
Immanuel Lutheran Childhood Center, a mission of Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a family-and-friends barbecue from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Martha & Mary’s Way
Kathrin Steinbacher, a graduate student in opera at Kansas University, will perform a benefit voice recital from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St.
Steinbacher, a soprano, will be accompanied on piano by Holly Beneventi. They will present operatic works by Bizet, Floyd, Mozart and Puccini, as well as spirituals and sacred songs.
Special presentation will be a duet with Pamela Hinchman, associate professor at voice at KU.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Payment in advance should be mailed to: Martha & Mary’s Way, P.O. Box 4424, Lawrence 66044.
Proceeds will go to support Martha & Mary’s Way, a ministry to women in the community.

The St. John annual parish picnic will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.
The event will serve as the parish kickoff for Lawrence’s 150th birthday, which is in 2004. The theme is a birthday party, and ministry groups will provide games for parishioners.
Knights of Columbus will be host to a parish breakfast after all morning Masses Sunday. Pancakes, sausages and eggs will be served in the church hall. Proceeds benefit Catholic Youth Organization.
High school confirmation candidates for 2003 will begin meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the church hall. Confirmation is at 4 p.m. Oct. 5. There will not be a 5 p.m. liturgy that day.
Eucharistic ministers and lectors will be commissioned at all liturgies today and Sunday.
St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church
The Grief Support Group, a ministry of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the church, 5700 W. Sixth St.
Relating to God in the midst of grief will be the topic in October. All those in the Douglas County area who have experienced the death of a loved one are welcome.

Forty Good Minutes Group will discuss “Works of Mercy in Our Everyday Lives” at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the Matthews Center of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.
Frank Connizo will present a program on planned giving at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall.
A reception in honor of Eva Fauble’s 97th birthday will be after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service in the parish hall.
The church will be host to a workshop on diaconate for all clergy and laypersons in the Diocese of Kansas starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 20 with a session titled, “The Deacon in the 20th Century.” After lunch, the workshop will continue with a second session, “The Deacon in the Liturgy.” Eucharist will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Cost of the workshop is $12 and includes lunch. Ormonde Plater, archdeacon of Louisiana, is the workshop’s presenter.

Trinity Lutheran Church
A new tool for teaching children the basics of faith — the workshop rotational model of Sunday school — makes its debut at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.
Child-friendly workshops in art, drama, music, games, puppets and computers are used to teach major Bible stories and concepts. The first unit for the fall picks up the life of Moses.
“The Church and Health Care” will be the focus of the adult discussion group for several weeks. The group meets at 9:45 a.m. Sundays.
A presentation on Stephens Ministries will lead off the series this weekend. It will look into the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America Social Statement on “Caring for Health: Our Shared Endeavor” and include health care professionals and guests from the community.
Faith Inkubators confirmation training begins at 5 p.m. Sunday in the youth room, followed by a youth gathering at 7 p.m.
Tuesday morning adult Bible study will resume at 10 a.m. in the church’s social room.
Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence
Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will have a spiritual celebration, “Our Stormy Path Through History,” from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday
A program, “On the Bicentennial of Ralph Waldo Emerson,” will be presented from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Coffee and fellowship hour will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
West Side Presbyterian Church
A new season for Circles at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will begin Wednesday. Lydia Circle meets at 9:30 a.m., and Martha’s Circle meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. New books will focus on “Unknown Women of the Bible.” Dorcas Circle will begin its new season at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 24.
