Ying Niu, left, and Jamie Huston are Lawrence High School National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. Niu is the daughter of Fenghui Niu and Wei Zhou. Huston is the son of John and Melinda Huston.

Robert Wilson and Loy Ukpokodu help serve the lunch meal for the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen. LINK is a food kitchen that serves the homeless and needy population of Lawrence. They helped serve meals on Aug. 30 in the basement of First Christian Church.

Jeff King, new president of the River City Lions Club, takes the gavel from outgoing president Lori Miller. New officers were inducted in June at the home of Ken and Mary Margaret Rowen. The River City Lions Club is a service organization affiliated with Lions International.
