4-H and FCE news

The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet at noon Tuesday for a lunch at the home of Kayellen Hess. Genieva McTaggart will be co-hostess. Members will answer roll call by telling whether they prefer whole wheat or white bread. Mary Lou Brown will give the lesson on healthful whole grains.

  • The first 4-H Festival will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21 in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. There will be information and activities involving many of the 40 project areas that are a part of 4-H. There also will be information about each of the 14 Lawrence-area clubs.
  • The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council met Sept. 2 at the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The council elected the following officers: Myrna Hartford, president; Alice Eisele, vice president; Frances Rake, secretary; Eda Thomason, treasurer; Darlene Bright, public relations; and Pauline Nunemaker, historian.

The following committee members were appointed: Sammy Locke, Genny Hunsinger and Aliene Bieber, education program; Darlene Bright, Margaret Fuston and Alice Eisele, Glenna Felts Memorial; Rachel Purvis, educational tours; and Darlene Bright, Red Cross cookies.

The FCE fall festival will be Oct. 29 in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Kanwaka and Vinland FCE units will each furnish five dozen cookies for the Red Cross blood drive Sept. 24 at First Christian Church.
