12:06 — Denver Latimore 1 pass from Bill Whittemore. Kansas scored on its first possession after Charles Gordon returned a UNLV punt 82 yards to the Rebels’ 9. KU scored three plays later. Johnny Beck kick. (KU 7, UNLV 0).
8:50 — FG Dillon Pieffer 21. UNLV answered KU’s TD with a 10-play, 80-yard drive. Larry Croom had runs of 18 and 13 yards, and Earvin Johnson hauled in a 31-yard pass from Kurt Nantkes. The drive stalled at the 4 when Nantkes was stopped a yard shy of a first down. (KU 7, UNLV 3).
5:43 — Croom 60 run. Ruschaard Dodd-Masters intercepted a deflected pass to stop a KU drive at the UNLV 15. The Rebels quickly took the lead with a five-play, 85-yard drive. Michael Johnson had a 15-yard reception. Pieffer kick. (UNLV 10, KU 7).
:58 — FG Beck 23. Clark Green’s 37-yard reception highlighted an 11-play, 64-yard drive that stalled at the UNLV 6. Other key plays were an 11-yard run by John Randle and a 14-yard reception by Mark Simmons on third-and-13. (KU 10, UNLV 10).
Second quarter
4:59 — FG Beck 26. Clark Green carried five times for 33 yards in an 11-play, 64-yard drive that stalled at UNLV’s 9. Whittemore threw an incompletion on third-and long from his own 23, but a holding call against UNLV kept the drive alive. (KU 13, UNLV 10).
1:15 — Croom 3 run. UNLV reclaimed the lead by driving 80 yards in nine plays. Dyante Perkins had a 23-yard run. Nantkes completed all three of his passes on the drive for 30 yards. Pieffer kick. (UNLV 17, KU 13).
:15 — FG Beck 37. It took KU only a minute to score. Whittemore completed a 22-yard pass to Green and a 13-yard pass to Gordon. A personal foul against UNLV also helped the Jayhawks get in field-goal range. (UNLV 17, KU 16).
Third quarter
11:35 — FG Beck 29. Beck matched his career high with his fourth field goal of the game. Greg Heaggans gave KU good field position on the first play of the second half when he returned the kickoff 48 yards to the KU 48. Clark Green ran 23 yards on the first play of the drive. UNLV helped the drive with a pass interference on third-and-eight at the UNLV 28. (KU 19, UNLV 17).
6:11 — Brandon Rideau 12 pass from Whittemore. KU drove 97 yards on 10 plays. Clark Green had runs of 19 and 24 yards before coming out because of an injury. He was replaced by John Randle, who broke a 15-yard run to set up the TD. Rideau also had a key seven-yard grab on third-and-four at the 34. Beck kick. (KU 26, UNLV 17).
2:59 — Simmons 39 pass from Whittemore. Gordon gave KU good field position with a 22-yard punt return to the KU 37. Whittemore completed passes to Rideau and Harold McClendon for 11 and 12 yards before hooking up with Simmons on third down. Run failed. (KU 32, UNLV 17)
2:37 — Gabe Toomey 29 interception return. Nantkes threw two straight incompletions before Toomey picked off a third-down pass over the middle. Beck kick. (KU 39, UNLV 17).

9:34 — Whittemore 1 run. KU marched 67 yards in 11 plays, including a 31-yard run by Randle. Beck kick. (KU 46, UNLV 17).
