? Sophomore Caroline Smith scored her 18th career goal, tying her for first place on Kansas University’s all-time list, as the Jayhawks shut out Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 3-0, Friday.

Smith’s goal was her sixth of the season, helping the Jayhawks improve to a best-ever start of 3-0. She tied the KU career record set by Natalie Hoogveld.

Freshmen Nikki Alvarez and Jessica Kilpatrick each scored goals on assists from junior Lauren Williams.

Alvarez put the Jayhawks on the board in the 20th minute with her first career goal. After Smith’s unassisted goal in the 27th minute, Kilpatrick took a pass from Williams to score the first goal of her career during the 55th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Meghan Miller earned her second shutout of the season and 10th of her career.

With another shutout, Miller will tie the Jayhawks’ career record.

“I thought the girls played really well tonight,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “It was nice for the freshmen to score because it does a lot for their confidence.

“We had contributions from a lot of people. That was good to see, and it allowed us to rest some people and let everyone play.”

KU plays Wisconsin at 1 p.m. Sunday in Madison, Wis.
