Ottawa spikes Spring Hill

? Ottawa High was all business in winning its high school football season opener, 42-6, Friday night against Spring Hill.

“I was proud of the way the kids came out of the gate,” OHS coach Pat Boeh said. “There wasn’t a lot of celebrating after the game. We know we have a huge journey ahead of us. We’ll have fun for a little while. But we have Ward coming, and that’s a big game for us.”

Kansas City Ward will travel Friday to Ottawa (1-0).

OHS senior Vashon Perryman led the Cyclones’ ground attack against Spring Hill with 15 carries for 128 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown scamper. Dom Nation had 10 carries for 94 yards and a pair of TD runs.

“I felt we were able to come out and establish the run, pick our spots with passes,” Boeh said. “We had a pretty good balance with a lot of players scoring.”

OHS senior quarterback Gabe Sheffield was 6-of-10 for 141 yards with an 80-yard TD strike to senior wide receiver Lee Baldwin, who had four catches for 92 yards.
