James Wallace Stevens

Services for James Wallace Stevens, 78, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Plymouth Congregational Church.

Mr. Stevens died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at his home.

He was born Aug. 7, 1925, the son of Wallace and Bertha Stevens. He attended Lawrence High School and graduated from Kansas University, where he was a member of the football team.

Mr. Stevens enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served in World War II. His most recent job had been in federal highway safety.

He married George Ann Nelson in 1949. She died in 2001.

Survivors include a daughter, Jamie Ann Stevens-Beel, Valentine, Neb.; two sons, Kyle W. Stevens, Overland Park, and Rick N. Stevens, Mission; and three grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Cottonwood Inc., 2801 W. 31st St., Lawrence 66046.

Kansas City Funeral Directors, Kansas City, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
