Text of Perkins’ letter to Kansas University athletic donors

Thank you for your support of coaches and student-athletes at the University of Kansas. As the new athletic director, I am proud to be at KU and look forward to building all of our teams to the level of competition as that of our men’s basketball team.

Donations through the Williams Fund and through major gifts will play a critical role in our success.

I assure you that you can be proud of all of KU’s coaches, who are dedicated to both their student-athletes and to KU. Our coaches recruit talented student-athletes to represent KU well both in the classroom and in competition.

I am committed to providing the resources and facilities necessary to help every KU varsity team compete at the highest level, while supporting the academic efforts of the student-athletes as they work to complete their degree programs.

It is important to note that there will be changes in the ways in which Kansas athletics conducts business. In the weeks ahead, my staff and I will be reviewing every avenue available to us to increase our annual budget. We will be looking at contracts, fund-raising, annual donations, marketing and ticket sales, to name a few.

We will keep our donors informed about changes in our policies regarding the purchase of season tickets for KU sporting events, and for post-season events.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we review these policies and make important changes to benefit our student-athletes, coaches, donors and customers.

We look forward to an exciting year in Kansas athletics, and we thank you for your continued generosity.

Sincerely,

Lew Perkins
