Walker lifts Tongie past Lansing; Wellsville, Baldwin win

? Justin Walker rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns off 17 carries and threw for 126 yards as Tonganoxie High finished district play with a 41-0 shutout of Lansing

“We’re pretty enthused,” THS coach Mark Elston said. “We didn’t play well at all last week, so we went back to the fundamentals and basics that had enabled us to score points earlier in the year. They did a good job in practice this week. They were more intense, more attentive.

“They had pride on the line and, obviously, playoff potential on the line, and they came out and, man-for-man, played probably the best they have all year. We didn’t want to back our way into the playoffs.”

Tongie (8-1 overall, 2-1 in district) will hit the road for the first round of playoffs Tuesday.
