Lua Elizabeth Buening

Mrs. Buening died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Plaza West Regional Health Center in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Lawrence, the daughter of Edward and Edith Lua (McCammon) Bumgardner. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1936 and attended Washburn University. She lived in Valley Falls from 1954 to 1970 and in Arvada, Colo., from 1970 to 1991, when she moved to Topeka.

Mrs. Buening worked for Adolph Coors Co. as a bookkeeper for 12 years. She was a former member of ADAH Chapter 7 Order of the Eastern Star, Lawrence, served as secretary of Topeka Chapter 37 of AARP and was a life member of PT Boats Inc.

She married Lawrence T. Buening on Aug. 27, 1948, in Kansas City, Kan. He died June 22, 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Lawrence T. Buening Jr., Topeka, James D. Buening, Denver, and Stephen J. Buening, Arvada, Colo.; a brother, Edward Bumgardner, Lawrence; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.
