80 more lawsuits filed for music downloads

The recording industry filed 80 more federal lawsuits throughout the country Thursday against computer users it said were illegally sharing music files across the Internet.

Those 80 people were among 204 who had been threatened with lawsuits earlier this month by the Washington-based Recording Industry Association of America unless they contacted the trade association to discuss a financial settlement.

The association said the remaining 124 people had contacted music industry lawyers about settling the claims.

Snowstorm blankets northern Rockies

A deadly storm slammed into the northern Rocky Mountain region, dumping snow on parts of Wyoming and Utah and causing temperatures to plunge suddenly by up to 50 degrees.

Travel was hazardous across Wyoming, with dozens of highway collisions, and a pilot was killed when his plane crashed in Cody.

In central Wyoming, at least 9 inches of snow had fallen from early Wednesday to Thursday morning around Lander and about 7 inches was reported in Casper, where Steve Hall, above, walked Thursday afternoon.

Northern Utah saw up to 5 inches. Snow in Montana was light, but winds were sharp and forecasters said temperatures could drop below zero on Halloween night. In Colorado, freezing rain along the eastern plains stopped two wildfires in their tracks.

Infant twins found dead in car engulfed in flood

A rain-swollen river swept away a car containing twin infants, and divers found their bodies still strapped into the vehicle Thursday.

Rescuers hauled the PT Cruiser to the bank of the Delaware River, wrapped the bodies in yellow tarps and handed them over to emergency personnel.

The 10-month-old boy and girl were riding with their mother, 43-year-old Dawn Dykstra, when the car hit a flooded section of road Wednesday and was pulled into the fast-moving river in Delhi, about 60 miles southwest of Albany, authorities said.

“It was just an awful tragic accident,” County Sheriff Maj. Charles Newman said. “She rolled down the window and then attempted to get the children from their seats. The car rolled and the water sucked her out.”
