The Bulldogs (6-2) and Kaws (1-7) are in must-win situations now. ... While Topeka Hayden has secured one of the state playoff berths in the district, Baldwin and Santa Fe Trail both stand at 1-1, and P-L is 0-2. ... If Baldwin wins, it's in: BHS beat SFT, 62-14, Oct. 17. ... A Perry-Lecompton win could shake things up a little bit. ... The Kaws, though, haven't won a game since Sept. 12, when they beat Basehor-Linwood 22-19.

De Soto at K.C. Ward

After surging to a 5-1 start, the Wildcats have hit a speed bump at the wrong time. ... A 28-19 loss to Eudora, coupled with a 35-7 loss to Mill Valley, puts De Soto 0-2 in district play. ... KC Ward has a 1-1 district record, having beaten Mill Valley, 20-14, and having lost to Eudora, 13-0. ... Even if it doesn't make the playoffs, De Soto is guaranteed its first winning season under coach Brad Scott.

Jefferson County North at McLouth

McLouth came extremely close to its first victory in two seasons, losing 21-20 to Wathena Friday. ... The Bulldogs (0-8) have seen a more powerful offense the last two weeks, scoring 45 points in the two losses, after being shut out four of the first five weeks. ... McLouth quarterback Kevin Stewart has been the key: Last week, he passed for 123 yards and rushed for 83 more.

Oskaloosa at Atchison Maur Hill

The Bears haven't had much luck in district play, being shut out against Pleasant Ridge and Leavenworth Immaculata. ... The Bears fell to 1-7 with the 28-0 loss to Immaculata. ... Oskaloosa's lone win is a 20-0 victory over McLouth Oct. 3. ... The Bears haven't played on the road since losing 49-12 Oct. 10 at Troy.

A struggling Chargers team might face its toughest opponent of the season tonight. ... Hayden (7-1) beat Baldwin, 19-16, Friday to secure a spot in the Kansas Class 4A playoffs. ... Santa Fe Trail (2-6) won its second game of the season Friday, beating Perry-Lecompton, 15-6, on the road. ... The victory over the Kaws broke the Chargers' five-game losing streak.

Tonganoxie at Lansing

Tonganoxie (7-1) righted the ship Friday, beating Basehor-Linwood 17-12 on the road. ... The win comes one week after the Chieftains lost their first game of the year, a 17-14 setback to K.C. Piper. ... Tonganoxie squeaked by Lansing, 21-20, last year to clinch a berth in the Class 4A state playoffs; the implications look similar this time around, too.

Central Heights at Wellsville

Once again, the Eagles got hot at just the right time. ... Wellsville (3-5) lost its first five games, then beat Spring Hill, Yates Center and Jayhawk-Linn in consecutive weeks. ... Now, a home victory over Central Heights will clinch a home game when the Class 3A state playoffs get started next week. ... The Eagles beat Central Heights, 28-14, last year, then beat Northeast of Arma in their first state playoff game.
