If it’s Wednesday, it must be Wisconsin. “That ’70s Show” takes place in the Badger State, and so does the new sitcom “A Minute with Stan Hooper” (7:30 p.m., Fox). Norm Macdonald, whose only claim to fame was his stint on “Saturday Night Live” as a “Weekend Update” anchor, returns to form as network news personality Stan Hooper, who decides to forsake New York for small-town America.

Stan and his wife (Penelope Ann Miller) decamp for Waterford Falls, Wis., hoping to find “normal” people, but instead they discover that the locals are “wacky.” They go to a diner to purchase “a cup of joe.” But as quickly as you can say “Newhart,” two eccentric guys with the same last name arrive and announce that they only serve cappuccino.

“American Masters” profiles the Godfather of Soul, the hardest-working man in show business, the founder of funk and at least the midwife of rap, in the documentary “James Brown: Soul Survivor” (8:30 p.m., PBS). Presidential hopeful and professional controversialist Rev. Al Sharpton provides insight into Brown’s effect on black America during the difficult days of the civil rights struggle. Vintage clips include Brown performing “Please, Please, Please,” “It’s a Man’s World,” “Sex Machine” and “Say It Loud (I’m Black and I’m Proud).”

Ghouls and goblins are creepy, but they’re no match for “The Machines” (7 p.m., Bravo), a documentary look at robots, cyborgs, evil computers and cloned creatures in movies. Look for clips from scary mechanical monster movies from “Metropolis” to “Star Wars: Episode 1– The Phantom Menace.”
