Marvin Herman Kahle

? Services for Marvin Herman Kahle, 80, Lecompton, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Big Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Big Springs.

Mr. Kahle died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, Lawrence.

He was born May 12, 1923, in Alta Vista, the son of Herman Casper and Ada Belle (Alexander) Kahle.

Mr. Kahle was a farmer and mechanic in the Alta Vista and Council Grove areas. He moved in 1950 to Topeka, where he worked as a mechanic. He then owned and operated Marvin H. Kahle Excavating for nearly 30 years. The business was in Topeka, but he worked in and around the Lawrence area. He retired in the 1980s.

He was an active member of Big Springs United Methodist Church and had served on its board.

He married Ruth LaVerne Tally on May 27, 1945, in Alta Vista. She died Aug. 13, 2002. A son, Marvin Eugene, also died earlier.

Survivors include four sons, Richard L., Lawrence, Gary L., Topeka, Gale D., Osage City, and Randall D., Lecompton; a sister, Verna Smith, Lawrence; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel in Topeka, where family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
