Silver eyes

Scary story contest entry

Cutting through the graveyard on the way home after the school dance is very scary at midnight! I was walking home one night; I had an eerie feeling that something bad was going to happen. I thought that the fog was a little strange. It was freaky because it was 2 feet from the ground.

The next thing I know is that I hear something coming up behind me. It was my best friend, Frank. He was out of breath, and his clothes were ripped.

I asked him, “What’s going on?”

He said, “Something with silver eyes is after me. It’s big and isn’t a person.”

We stopped moving and heard the scariest noise we’d ever heard in our lives.

It mumbled, “I will get you someday no matter how long you run from me!”

I uttered to Frank, “Let’s go!”

We ran out of the graveyard back to the school dance.

Our other friends (Bob, Joe and Kyle) were in trouble, and we had to warn them. We were out of breath when we found them. They noticed that we were scared out of our wits. We explained to them the mumbling noise that we heard in the graveyard.

I told them, “We’re going to figure out who — or what — it was!”

We made a plan. We snuck into the janitor’s room to get some ropes and string. The five of us headed for the graveyard.

As we entered the graveyard, we heard the mumble again. I told Bob to run the rope to the other side of the graveyard. I pulled the rope until it was stretched tight. Next, we decided that Bob would scream to try to attract the “thing.” The four of us were crouched in position.

The “thing” came running and tripped over our rope-trap. We grabbed the “thing” and tied it up to a gravestone.

We were scared to death, but we knew we had to take its mask off. We couldn’t believe our eyes. It was our principal!

We asked him, “What in the world are you doing?”

He answered, “I thought that I could scare you and others to leave. Then, I wouldn’t have so many kids to deal with at school.”

The police came and took him away. Elmer, the janitor, became our new principal.
