Black cats are bad luck

Scary story contest entry

Cutting through the graveyard on the way home after a school dance, I heard a strange noise coming from one of the gravestones. I started walking suspiciously toward the cracked piece of stone and stood there hunched over with my ear toward the gravestone.

All of a sudden, I heard the crunching leaves. I turned around as fast as a streak of lightning. I saw nothing but empty streets and one lonely streetlight gleaming down upon the graveyard.

I turned around, and my best friend, Nicole, jumped out of the bushes and grabbed my shoulders, scaring me to death. I told her what I had heard, and she asked me why I was so scared.

We were standing there when a black cat ran out in front of us, and black cats are bad luck. The ground started to shake. The gravestone broke into pieces, and something arose from the odd-looking grass. The next thing I know, Nicole and I are holding on to each other, screaming loudly.

The giant mummy came up and started making a low yelling sound. It started walking toward us, trying to grab us.

Nicole and I flung open the gate to the cemetery and ran as fast we could back to the school, but there were no cars in the parking lot, and the school doors were locked.

So then Nicole and I ran to her house and kicked the door open, then turned around and locked it. We looked out the window, and finally the scary figure was gone forever.
