Bailey services

Services for Vera Etta Jarvis Bailey, 93, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lawrence Heights Christian Church. Burial will be in Oak Wood Cemetery in Baldwin.

Mrs. Bailey died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born May 27, 1910, in Seiling, Okla., the daughter of Orval Russell Jarvis and Mary Jane DeWitt. She grew up in Dewey County, Okla., where she graduated from high school. She moved to Wilson County in 1931 and to Baldwin in 1942.

Mrs. Bailey taught school in western Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas. She worked for Acme Dry Cleaners in Lawrence and Cook’s Cleaners in Baldwin. She retired in 1978. She was a sewing and cooking leader for Palmyra 4-H Club and was a member of Evangeline Chapter No. 162 Order of the Eastern Star, Hopewell Country Club, Douglas County Home Demonstration Unit, Women’s Society of Christian Service, Ives Chapel Methodist Church in Baldwin, Tonganoxie Christian Church and Lawrence Heights Christian Church.

She married Harold H. Bailey on April 20, 1930, in Dewey County. He died April 7, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Russell H. Bailey, Lawrence, and Walter J. Bailey, Baldwin; two daughters, Mary Julia Webb, Kansas City, Mo., and Erma C. Fuller, Eudora; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice or Eudora Nursing Center Landscaping Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
