KU doubles tandem second at USTA event

New York — Kansas University’s doubles team of seniors Kristen Steinbock and Emily Haylock finished second Monday in the main draw of the USTA National Women’s College Invitational.

The two Jayhawks lost in the finals to Kentucky’s Sarah Foster and Aibika Kalsarieva, 8-1. KU will return to action Oct. 22-26 at the Omni Hotel Regionals in Salt Lake City.

KU women’s golf fourth at invite

Manhattan — The Kansas University women’s golf squad finished fourth out of 12 teams in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational Tuesday at Colbert Hills. The Jayhawks finished with a team score of 944. Kansas State won the tournament with a 925.

KU freshman Jill Womble was the top Jayhawk finisher, placing eighth after a three-round score of 234.

KU returns to action Nov. 3-4 at the Edwin Watts Palmetto Invitational in Kiawah, S.C.

KU’s Miller honored

Kansas University goaltender Meghan Miller has been named defensive soccer player of the week by the Big 12 Conference. Miller, a junior from Seattle, led KU to wins over Iowa State and Missouri with her school-record sixth and seventh shutouts of the season.
