Giants’ Bonds left without ring again

? Barry Bonds reached into his locker and pulled out his wallet, watch, cell phone and necklace that holds a picture of his late father.

There was still one thing missing: a World Series ring.

Bonds’ 18th major-league season ended Saturday just like all the others — without a title.

“See y’all in spring training,” Bonds said, his only comment to reporters after his most trying season.

The five-time MVP had minor surgery in spring training, missed several games because of injury, was on the bereavement list twice and spent a night in the hospital to be treated for exhaustion and an accelerated heartbeat.

Then he missed out on another shot at a championship ring when the Florida Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants, 7-6, Saturday to win their best-of-five NL playoff series, 3-1. Bonds went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in the finale.

“I can’t feel his pain, nor can I even act like it,” teammate Jeffrey Hammonds said. “He’s going through it. And he’s trying to deal with it.”

Bonds lived his dream of playing in a World Series last season, but the Giants lost to the Anaheim Angels in seven games. He returned this year hoping for another chance, and the Giants looked poised to provide him with one.

The Marlins vowed to pitch around him, especially in key situations. And they did — walking him an NL division series-record eight times, six intentionally. Bonds finished the series 2-for-9 with two RBIs.
