Carnegie program picks KU history department

Kansas University’s department of history has been named a partner in the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate, a Carnegie Foundation-funded program that will study doctoral education in leading graduate programs.

KU was one of 19 selected history programs.

Journal-World publisher to speak at breakfast

The Lawrence Schools Foundation is playing host to a community breakfast Thursday featuring the editor and publisher of the Journal-World.

Dolph Simons Jr., a 1947 graduate of Lawrence High School and a graduate of Kansas University, will deliver the keynote speech at the breakfast.

Randy Weseman, the district’s superintendent, also will speak at the event.

The breakfast is 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive. The cost is $25 per person.

The foundation is a charitable organization working on behalf of the public school district.
