Order of Arrow Scouts from the Pelathe District elected new Chapter 2 officers at the recent Order of the Arrow fall fellowship.

The 2004 chapter chief is Tyler Thomas, of Troop 62. Vice chiefs are Peter Tuttle, of Troop 52, and Clinton Kissenger, of Troop 62. Michael Thomas, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 62, was selected for Vigil Honor, the highest rank in the Order of the Arrow camping society.

The tribe of Mic-O-Say, an honorary camping program at Bartle Scout Reservation, announces its 75th anniversary celebration will be June 12, 2004, at the camp. The celebration will include tours of new facilities, reunion meetings, a campfire program and a fireworks display.

Mic-O-Say was created in 1929 by H. Roe Bartle, of Kansas City, to recognize Boy Scouts who represent the best of the Scouting program through their leadership and participation. Almost 63,000 Scouts and adult leaders have been inducted into the organization.

Cub Scouts and leaders from Pack 3071, chartered to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lawrence, attended the Pelathe District’s Webelos Woods Weekend Sept. 19-21.

Activities during the weekend included historic Indian folklore, first aid, camping gear, fire starting, knot tying, engineering, canoeing, orienteering and using compass coordinates.

Troop 64 of Eudora and Troop 65 of Baldwin were hosts of the event at New Spring Lake near Baldwin.

Scouts who attended were Mitchell Damron, Tyler Kottman, Eric Peterson, Marcus Sanders, Derrick Rafferty, Chase Reiling and Faraji Kendagor, first-year Webelos; Tyler Denny, Andrew Denny, Mathew Fish, Chad Boyd, David Nichols, Devin Shoemaker, Stefan Kuczera and Jaron Brynds, second-year Webelos.

They were accompanied by the following adult leaders and parents: Steve Damron, James Kottman, Grant Peterson, Marlette Rafferty, Jim Reiling, Steve Garlow, Tami Denny, Allyn Denny, Larry Fish, Marty Boyd, Kathy Nichols, Patty Rice, Krzystof Kuczera and William Brynds.

Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to the West Side Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, had its September campout in Thomas Park in Salina. The Scouts spent the day in the Rolling Hills Wildlife Refuge, a 95-acre facility that houses more than 80 species of rare and endangered animals.

Scouts who attended were Joseph Vannicola, Shawn Scott, Michael Scott, David Hanson, Jacob Christilles and Wolfgang Johanning. They were accompanied by Jill Baringer, Deb Vannicola and Dennis Christilles.
