Maxine and Novy Bowman

Novy and Maxine Bowman, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception, given by their children, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the University Community of Christ Church, 1900 University Drive.

Novy Bowman and Maxine Sheppard were married Oct. 10, 1943, in Independence, Mo.

The couple have lived in many places during Novy’s 21 years in the military. He retired in 1957 with the rank of lieutenant commander. He returned to school after retirement and received degrees from Central Missouri State University and Kansas University.

Maxine attended Graceland University. She taught music at Riverside School and was active in the church and community.

The couple’s children are Karen Bowman, John Bowman and Maggie Bowman, all of Lawrence; Bobbi Bowman, Salem, Ore.; and Patti Bowman, Colorado Springs, Colo. They also have eight grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to the reception. The couple request no gifts.
