4-H and FCE news

The Eudora 4-H Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The club will celebrate with a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Alumni and families are invited to attend.

Alumni are encouraged to bring their favorite fair project and pictures for display. The dinner will be catered. There also will be entertainment and door prizes.

Advanced tickets are $7.

  • Kanwaka FCE will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 14 at the home of Jean Etherton. Mary Ann Strong will give the lesson on “Healthful Whole Grains.”

  • Douglas County Family and Community Education in cooperation with K-State Research & Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is offering a program “Minding Your Manners” at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St. There will be a $3 fee.

Diane Niehoff, of the Three Sisters Inn in Baldwin, will give a presentation on manners and etiquette.

She also will have a tea party to demonstrate proper table manners. Attendees are asked to bring their favorite tea cup and saucer. They also may wear a hat.

To register, call the Extension Office at 843-7058. The program is free and open to the public.

Scott Bronoski and Sierra Dickson led the flag salute at the September meeting of the Kanwaka 4-H Club.

BJ Simpson and Mirah Dickson led the club in singing “Take Me Out To the Ball Game.”

The club had five visitors. Jason McCandless read the minutes.

Scott Bronoski gave a report on the county council meeting. Camp Chipawa will be Oct. 11. The club discussed going ice skating. Sierra Dickson gave a talk on “Mowie Wowie Flip Flops.”

The club elected the following officers: Scott Bronoski, president; Amber Butenbender, vice president; Jason McCandless, secretary and county council representative; Shon Price, reporter and parliamentarian; Curtis Wakeman, treasurer; Alex Price and Mirah Dickson, photographers; Jennifer McCandless, historian; Mirah Dickson and Martha Steward, song leaders; and Justin McCandless and Steward Wakeman, recreation leaders.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
