Free State’s Alysha Valencia won, and the Firebirds’ Nick Squier was second Thursday in the individual races of the Topeka Hayden Cross Country Invitational.

Valencia won the girls varsity race in 11:40, and Squier was second in the boys varsity race in 16:13.

Free State placed fourth in the girls team race and second, behind Baldwin, in the boys race. Baldwin’s top boys placer was Brian Gerstner, who was fourth.

BHS was second in the girls team race and was paced by Erica Ogle, who was third in 12:05. Overland Park Aquinas won the girls team title.
