Tiahrt sides

? Republican Rep. Todd Tiahrt voted Thursday against President Bush’s attempt to change federal rules on overtime pay, siding with Democrats who balked at denying benefits to millions of workers.

He said about 10,000 white-collar aerospace workers in his Wichita, Kan., district would be affected. He said engineers at Boeing Co.’s Wichita facility would see overtime become a bargaining chip “the second their labor agreement expires.”

Tiahrt and Kansas Democratic Rep. Dennis Moore voted against the new overtime rules, while Republican Reps. Jerry Moran and Jim Ryun voted for them.
