Free State
Class: Senior and sophomore
Sport: Tennis
This week: The Koch sisters have been on top of their game lately, and they helped the Firebirds to an easy 8-1 victory over Lawrence High Monday. Rachel Koch won her match at No. 1 singles, 8-3, over Lawrence’s Amy Bullerman, then teamed up with her sister, Andrea, to win No. 1 doubles, 8-5. The sisters also took first in doubles at the Emporia quad Saturday, going 3-0.
Comment: “Rachel and Andrea have both worked hard in preparation for this season, and I’m happy that their efforts are being rewarded by their strong and successful play,” FSHS coach Jon Renberger said. “It’s not always easy for siblings to mesh well as a doubles team, but they have handled it and continue to get better.”

Andy Coffman
Eudora
Class: Junior
Sport: Soccer
The week: Coffman has been a critical piece to the Eudora soccer puzzle, emerging as the leader of a building, budding program. The Cardinals, in their second year of boys soccer, won their first-ever game last week, defeating KC Wyandotte, 2-1. Coffman had a goal and an assist in the game and has totaled two goals and three assists so far this year.
Comment: “He’s just a scrappy player,” Eudora coach Erik Peltzman said. “Everywhere he needs to contribute, he contributes.”
