Robert W. Durkin Jr.
ATCHISON ? Mass of Christian Burial for Robert W. Durkin Jr., 52, Atchison, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison. Private inurnment will be later.
Mr. Durkin died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at his home.
He was born May 8, 1951, in Atchison, the son of Robert W. and Annabelle (Hooper) Durkin Sr. He attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Maur Hill in 1969. He attended the Northeast Kansas Vocational-Technical School for two years.
Mr. Durkin was an engineer for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad and then for the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 30 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, Atchison Yacht Club, Elks Lodge and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Atchison. He was a main builder in the Dooley-Durkin Families’ Float, which participated in St. Patrick’s Day parades.
He married Sue Clemens on May 1, 1971, in Atchison. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kelli Durkin, Lawrence; two sons, Sean and Will, both of the home; his mother, Atchison; two brothers, Stephen F. and Michael L., both of Atchison; and a sister, Deb A. Clem, Lancaster.
A parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, where the family will receive friends afterward.
The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Church or Atchison Catholic Elementary School, sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison 66002.
