Francis Strikes Gold: Carol Francis of Lawrence earned gold medals in four swim events at the Kansas Senior Olympics Saturday at Washburn University in Topeka. Francis won age-group titles in the 100 freestyle and in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

Second Places: Lawrence’s Celeste Leonardi and Dee Boeck finished second in their women’s age groups at the Cliffhanger 8K last Sunday in Gladstone, Mo.

Thomas Ace: Chet Thomas of Lawrence used a wedge to record a hole-in-one on the 85-yard No. 8 hole last Thursday at the Orchards. Witnesses were Bob Crawley, Russ Stites and Jim Nebergall. Thomas now has aces on all four par-three holes at the executive nine-hole course.
- Hoag Honored: Charlie Hoag, a member of Kansas University’s 1952 NCAA championship basketball team, was one of 16 people inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame Saturday in Des Plaines, Ill. Hoag, a native of Oak Park, Ill., lives in Topeka.
