KPR to offer holiday programs

Kansas Public Radio’s KANU FM 91.5 offers several holiday-themed programs in December.

Here’s a rundown of the holiday programs:

Dec. 15

A Taste of Hanukkah, 8 p.m.

More than 150 musicians from the New England Conservatory, the Boston Community Choir and other ensembles, recorded live at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston.

Dec. 17

Welcome Christmas, 6 p.m.

Philip Brunelle and VocalEssence performance, featuring two new carols for chorus and percussion.

Dec. 18

A Candlelight Christmas, 6 p.m.

Recorded in the beautiful and historic Heinz Chapel at Pittsburgh, the Heinz Chapel Choir holiday concert features holiday choral favorites spanning many centuries and continents.

Dec. 19

Holiday Vespers, 6 p.m.

Tape-delayed broadcast of the annual holiday concert at Kansas University features the combined choirs and orchestra in a performance of traditional carols for the season. Also rebroadcasts on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.

Dec. 21

Downtown Messiah, 2 p.m.

A hip, genre-stretching New York version of George Frideric Handel’s holiday classic.

Dec. 23

Echoes of Christmas, 6 p.m.

The annual yuletide concert by the Dale Warland Singers, one of America’s premier mixed-voice a capella choirs. The centerpiece of the program is Francis Poulenc’s gorgeous Quatre Motets pour le Temps de Noel.

Dec. 24

Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, 9 a.m.

Live, trans-Atlantic broadcast of A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s College in Cambridge, England. Rebroadcast at 6 p.m. Dec. 24.

Dec. 24

Joy of Heaven, 11 a.m.

Choirs and symphony orchestra of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., present Concordia College Christmas Concert.

Dec. 26

Christmas Right Between the Ears, 6 p.m.

Rebroadcast of the annual holiday broadcast by Kansas Public Radio’s award-winning comedy show, live from Liberty Hall. The show features holiday sketches and satirical carols.
