Kansas State falls to Penn State, 69-56

? Tanisha Wright had 23 points in No. 7 Penn State’s 69-56 victory over No. 9 Kansas State Saturday in the championship game of the Junkanoo Shootout. Last season, Kansas State beat the Lions, 88-66, in the finals of the Preseason NIT.

Kelly Mazzante finished with 16 points for Penn State (3-1), and Jess Strom added 15 points and six assists.

“Revenge is sweet and we definitely talked about it a lot,” Strom said. “That was a bad game for us last year, and we just wanted to come back and prove they are not better than us.

“I’m the point guard, so I’m supposed to be in the middle of everything, and I was just trying to get my teammates involved. We decided just to attack their press, and I was able to dribble through it.”

Nicole Ohlde and Megan Mahoney each scored 15 points for Kansas State (2-2).

No. 5 Texas Tech 77, SMU 37

Dallas — Jia Perkins scored 22 points, and Texas Tech set a school record by holding SMU to 17 percent shooting in the championship game of the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic.

No. 20 Colorado 74, California 63

Boulder, Colo. — Tera Bjorklund had 21 points and nine rebounds, leading Colorado over California in the championship game of the Coors Classic. Colorado (5-1) received 14 points from freshman Emily Waner and 13 apiece from Randie Wirt and Kate Fagan. Wirt added 10 rebounds.

Baylor 76, Washington State 39

Waco, Texas — Sophia Young scored 27 points, and Steffanie Blackmon added 18 as Baylor beat Washington State. Young went 11-of-16 from the floor and had eight rebounds and five steals. Blackmon was 8-of-10 from the field.
