Walter L. Bell

Services for Walter L. Bell, 78, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home with military honors by Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion. Burial will be in Stull Cemetery.

Mr. Bell died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 3, 1925, in Ottawa, the son of Albert Loren Bell and Frances Opal Wilkens.

A graduate of Ottawa High School, Mr. Bell served as a Merchant Marine during World War II and in the Army during the Korean War. He then worked for Mobile Oil Co. and Snap-On Tools. He moved to Lawrence in 1961 and worked in the pharmacy department at Kansas University for 20 years before he retired in 1987.

Mr. Bell was a member of Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion and Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He married Ruth Marie Well on Jan. 30, 1959, in Quitman, Miss. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, John J. Richardson, Albuquerque, N.M.; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Christ Community Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
