Magic lose 15th straight

Toronto squeaks past Orlando, 87-86

? Vince Carter didn’t take it easy on his cousin.

Carter had 20 points, and the Toronto Raptors held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Orlando to hand the Magic their 15th consecutive loss, 87-86, Friday night.

Carter’s biggest shot was a fallaway jumper over cousin Tracy McGrady with 12.5 seconds left that put the Raptors up for good.

“That’s the way battles, especially family battles, go,” Carter said. “He’s not taking it easy on me, I’m not taking it easy on him. That’s what makes it so special and fun to watch.”

Toronto appeared to be in control when it was up 79-66 in the fourth quarter, but the Magic went on a 16-2 run and took an 82-81 lead on a pair of free throws by McGrady with 59 seconds remaining.

Following a field goal by Toronto’s Alvin Williams, McGrady banked in a 17-footer to give Orlando an 84-83 lead with 27.3 seconds left. But Carter then hit his jumper to put the Raptors ahead for good.

“It was just two great players going out there and competing,” McGrady said. “He hit some shots, and I hit some shots, but he hit the one that really counted. It doesn’t surprise me. He thrives off situations like this.”

Tyronn Lue missed a shot that would have put Orlando ahead with 4.9 seconds, and Alvin Williams hit two free throws to give Toronto a three-point lead.

Gordon Giricek made two free throws for the Magic with 1.4 seconds left to make it 87-86, but Orlando never got another shot off.
