Club news
- The Lawrence Music Club met Nov. 13 at the home of Alice Downs. Betty Jo Miller was the assistant hostess. The program featured John Boulton, flute, and Alice Downs and Elaine de San Miguel, piano. The hostess committee was Marian Scheid, Janice Cobb, Jessie Branson and Barbara Learned.
- University Bridge Club announced winners of its Nov. 22 game. Leo and Mona Langlois and Robert and Jean Etherton were hosts.
Blue winners were Dale Kring, first; Henry Wigington, second; Leo Langlois, third; Bud Lukens, fourth; and Carl Schaake, fifth.
Pink winners were Jean Whitaker, first; Freddie Nelson, second; Bette Lukens, third; Ailene Bocquin, fourth; and Mona Langlois, fifth.
- Knights of Columbus Council 1372 recently donated $500 to the Capuchin Province of Mid-America in Denver. The money will help seminarians Scott Elder, Albert Montoya and Neal Connor. The Knights also gave $500 to Shawn Tunink, a seminarian who is studying for the priesthood at Mundelein Seminary in Illinois. Tunink, a Kansas University graduate, is a member of the council.
The money was raised by having breakfast fund-raisers at St. John the Evangelist Church.
- The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday for its weekly game. Eleven tables of players competed in a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the game.
Playing North-South, Pat Lombardi and Donna Munson placed first in A and B. Clyde Romer and Steve Phelps finished second in A and B. Lester Dalton and Julia Brooks were third in A. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed fourth in A. Jerry Sloan and Pat Radford took fifth in A. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley finished first in C.
Sitting East-West, Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman took first place in A. Jim Kelley and John Hickey placed second in A. Bob Huffman and Don Bush finished third in A and first in B and C. Judy Bevan and Lynn Hui took fourth in A and second in B and C. Virginia Seaver and Klee Zaricky were fifth in A. Cathy Blumenfeld and Mike Blumenfeld placed third in B and C.
- The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met Nov. 21 for its weekly game. Ten and a half tables competed in a stratified game that use a Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.
Sitting North-South, Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough finished in first place in A. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley claimed second in A and first in B and C. Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui took third in A. Shirlie Vaughn and Virginia Eddy were fourth in A and second in B.
Competing East-West, Virginia Seaver and Klee Zaricky placed first in A. Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges took second in A and first in B. Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd placed third in A and second in B. Donna Munson and Pat Lombardi took fourth in A and third in B. Nita Scales and Linda Heavin were first in C.

Playing North-South, Harriet Olson and Artie Shaw claimed first place in A and B. Dick Moore and Bobbi McCorkle placed second in A and B and first in C.
Sitting East-West, John Gilbert and Judy Bevan placed first in A and B. Jan Darting and Janet Williams took second in A and B and first in C.
