? Ottawa University’s run in the NAIA football playoffs ended in the first round.

The Braves (9-2), who led 20-14 at halftime, were slowed by Daniel Johnston’s two touchdown passes, and Jon Paulsen’s rushing TD with 1:27 left made the difference in a 36-33 Northwestern victory Saturday.

Paulsen, who led in rushing with 140 yards, scored on an eight-yard run for the Red Raiders (10-1). Northwestern scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, including both of Johnston’s TD throws, to overcome a seven-point deficit.

Ottawa’s Derrick Ward rushed 315 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Braves. His performance pushed him past the 2,000-yard mark for the season.

Ottawa men’s basketball falls: Mike Atkinson collected 23 points and 21 rebounds as Missouri Valley edged Ottawa, 106-104, in men’s college basketball Saturday.

Brett Lickteig led Ottawa with 32 points and 12 rebounds. Thomas Bucker added 21 points, P.J. Siggal had 16 and Ben Letcher added 14 for Ottawa.
