KU to entertain Aggies

Kansas University’s volleyball team will seek its first-ever win against Texas A&M when the Jayhawks play host tonight to the No. 21 Aggies.

The match is slated for 7 p.m. at Horejsi Center.

The Jayhawks (18-10 overall, 10-7 Big 12 Conference) are 4-1 in November and will try to knock off their third ranked opponent of the season in A&M (20-7, 12-5).

KU is 9-4 at home, including 6-2 in league play. It enters tonight’s match in sixth place in the Big 12 standings, one win behind Colorado (11-6) and Missouri (11-7).

With three matches remaining, Kansas will close its toughest stretch of the regular season, facing two top-25 teams in a four-day span. The Jayhawks’ four-match win streak — the best Big 12 run in school history — was snapped Wednesday night by No. 10 Nebraska.

KU coach Ray Bechard was honored Friday night during the men’s basketball game after recently earning his 100th career victory.

Texas A&M has won its last two matches, defeating Texas Tech and Baylor. The Aggies, who finished fifth in the league last season, are led by hitters Laura Jones and Melissa Munsch and libero Beth Skypala. Jones averages 3.93 kills and 2.9 digs a game; Munsch, the Big 12 player of the week, adds 3.72 kills, 2.91 digs and 1.1 blocks.

Four Jayhawks recorded double-digit kills in KU’s 3-2 loss to then-No. 22 Texas A&M Oct. 15 in College Station. Kansas was outscored 30-18, 32-34, 30-24, 29-31 and 15-11. Josi Lima led KU with 17 kills on a team-leading .311 attack percentage. She also had what was at the time a career-best 16 digs.

The setback gave Texas A&M a 16-0 advantage in the all-time series with KU. With a win tonight, Kansas will set a school record for conference wins.

The Jayhawks will travel Wednesday to Waco, Texas, to take on the Bears.
