Bosh’s bucket big

Rookie forces OT; Raptors top Rockets

? Rookie Chris Bosh showed the confidence of a veteran in his finest game as a pro.

Bosh forced overtime with his first NBA three-pointer and scored 10 of his season-high 25 points in the extra periods to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 101-97 double-overtime victory Sunday over the Houston Rockets.

Bosh, the fourth overall pick in the draft out of Georgia Tech, hit a three-pointer with 7.2 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and added four points in the first extra period and six in the second as the Raptors improved to 5-0 at home and 5-5 overall.

“I was open. I felt confident. I didn’t hesitate. The basket looked pretty big, so I just let it go,” Bosh said.

In regulation, Bosh made a jumper over Yao Ming, cutting Houston’s lead to one with 32 seconds remaining.

Steve Francis followed with a 19-foot jumper, giving Houston a three-point lead with 15 seconds left, but a double-teamed Vince Carter found Bosh, whose three-pointer tied it at 83 with 7.2 remaining.

“He was lucky. He just threw it up and hoped it went in,” Francis said.

Francis scored 25 points, and Yao added 20 points and 12 rebounds for Houston.

Carter scored 18 points for Toronto, and teammates Lamond Murray and Antonio Davis each added 13.

Bosh said he impressed himself with the poise he showed.

Toronto's Vince Carter, center, drives past Houston's Cuttino Mobley, right, and Steve Francis during the second half. The Raptors won, 101-97, in double overtime Sunday in Toronto.

“I just stayed calm. I’ve been here before, just not at this level,” he said.

Kings 106, Warriors 104

Sacramento, Calif. — Peja Stojakovic scored 33 points, and Bobby Jackson hit a three-pointer with 50.4 seconds remaining.

Sacramento hasn’t lost to Golden State since Dec. 20, 1999. After Cliff Robinson made a three-pointer to tie the game (101-101), Jackson responded with another three-pointer from the deep corner, putting Sacramento ahead 104-101 with 50.4 seconds remaining.

Jason Richardson led the Warriors with 31 points and eight rebounds, but missed a driving layup with five seconds left, and Brad Miller grabbed the rebound.

Stojakovic, who also had 11 rebounds, made two free throws with 1.3 seconds left to secure the win.

Jackson scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Mike Bibby had 13 points.

Lakers 99, Heat 77

Los Angeles — Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, Shaquille O’Neal had 14 points and six rebounds in only 24 minutes, and the Lakers led all the way.

The Lakers pulled away by outscoring the Heat, 24-7, to end the second quarter and begin the third for a 67-41 lead.

The win was the third in a row for the Lakers (8-2) and their 20th straight regular-season victory at home. The Heat (2-8) had their two-game winning streak snapped.

It was also the 784th regular-season victory for Lakers coach Phil Jackson, moving him into a tie for 11th on the NBA’s career list with Gene Shue.

Jackson, whose teams are 784-292, has coached nearly 600 fewer games than Shue did.

Bryant had the bulk of his points from the foul line, going 15-of-16. As a team, the Lakers made 33 of 46 free throws.
