Christ Covenant Church

Christ Covenant Church, 2312 Harvard Road, will have a Christmas craft sale and tea Nov. 22. All women from the Lawrence area are invited to discover “Hope for the Holidays” in an evening of music, candles and Yuletide spirit.

The event will be an opportunity to learn new and easy ideas for decorating and entertaining.

The craft sale is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and admission is free. Tickets to the tea are $4 per person. Tea will be served at 7 p.m.

Community Drop-In Center

A fall festival will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Community Drop-In Center, 214 W. 10th St.

The event will feature live music, Indian tacos, a craft sale, a children’s craft booth and a flea market. It will help support the holiday gift program that provides gifts to those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to celebrate the season.

The event is hosted by the Happy Crafters craft-therapy group that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays to work together on life issues while creating blessings for others.

First United Methodist Church

“Celebrate the Gift” Sunday will be Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The chancel choir and the mid-morning music team will perform special music, the worship services will focus on a joyful response to gifts from God.

The gathering-area of the church will welcome members with live music, decorations and festive food in a celebration of First Methodist’s ministries.

There also will be a grand opening of the church’s new “Hall-elujah”: pictures, information and highlights displayed on new bulletin boards located outside the church office.

United Methodist Men’s dinner meeting will be Wednesday. The Rev. David Livingston will be the speaker and will install new officers.

Heartland Community Church

The Thanksgiving Banquet of Heartland Medical Clinic, a joint event with the Lawrence Association of Evangelical Churches, will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building 21, 21st and Harper streets.

Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Kan., will be the speaker. His topic will be “The Value of Serving.”

The event is free and open to the community. A freewill offering will be taken to support the clinic, which is a ministry of Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt.

Living Water Church

Wayne Anderson, head of International Apostolic Ministries, a consortium of church groups that has a presence in many countries, will speak and minister at the 9:45 a.m. Sunday service at Living Water Church, which meets at the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St.

The church is a member of International Apostolic Ministries.

Morning Star Christian Church

The next Warriors for Christ meeting for the fourth- through sixth-grade youth group will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Morning Star Christian Church, 998 N. 1771 Road. The group will have a game night.

The Rev. John McDermott will continue his six-session series on “Significance: Finding Your True Worth in God’s Eyes” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Childcare will be provided.

Plymouth Congregational Church

The Open and Affirming Steering Committee will have a forum at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

A panel of speakers will share from personal and family experiences about homosexuality.

As part of the church’s ongoing sesquicentennial celebration, the Rev. Dale Turner, Plymouth’s pastor from 1948 to 1958, will return to the pulpit during the 9:30 a.m. service Dec. 7.

There will be a time to share a meal with Turner at noon Dec. 6, following the Hanging of the Greens from 9 a.m. to noon and the Advent workshop (11 a.m. to noon).

Redeemer Lutheran Church

The annual Thanksgiving dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave.

Smoked turkey and ham will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a vegetable, salad or dessert.

A Thanksgiving Eve service will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 26.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

A small groups leader training session will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Promptcare of Lawrence will provide flu shots ($15) following the 7:45 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Auditions for the church’s Christmas pageant will be after the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship services.

“Pasta with the Pastors” will be after the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service. This is an opportunity for people to learn more about the church.

St. James AME Church

St. James AME Church Women’s Missionary Society and the Young People’s Division will present comedian B-Rich and Friends at 7 p.m. today at West Junior High School, 2700 Harvard Road.

B-Rich, a nationally known comedian, has appeared on Black Entertainment Television’s “Comic View” and has opened for many musical performers.

Tickets cost $10 per person and are available at Da Shop, 1109 Mass. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

St. James is at Seventh and Maple streets.

St. John’s United Church of Christ

The annual Mission Festival of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Baldwin, will be Sunday.

Shannon Howard, a missionary serving in Nicaragua, will preach at 11 a.m. She will show slides at 1:30 p.m. after a church dinner. Howard also will bring pottery and other pieces of art from Nicaragua to sell. Proceeds will benefit the poor of that country.

The community is invited to attend.

The church is at 396 E. 900 Road, one mile north of Worden in Douglas County. The Rev. Fred Craig is pastor.

Trinity Lutheran Church

A one-day, anti-racism multicultural celebration with inspirational worship, music and resources for pastors, lay leaders, youth groups and families will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

Topics for the day include: the history of Lawrence and its place in the anti-slavery movement, presented by Steve Jansen; truth and fiction about Islam; toys and foods from other countries; music from the Iglesia Luterana de la Resurreccion; and multicultural resources from Augsburg Fortress publishers.

Bishop Gerald Mansholt, bishop of the Central States Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will preach at the closing worship.

The Rev. Don Conrad continues his series on Martin Luther in the adult discussion class at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The topic is “What Made Him a Lutheran?”

The Women of the ELCA will have Bible study groups at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

West Side Presbyterian Church

A reception in honor of Amy Lukken Luckenbill to celebrate her recent marriage and to say goodbye will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive.

Luckenbill has brought her musical talent to the church’s bell and voice choirs during the past year, and this will be an opportunity to thank her with a card and best wishes for her new position at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt. She is Plymouth’s new interim choir director.

Church deacons will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday.
