Kansas men, women headed for regional

Football players won’t be the only Kansas University athletes in Stillwater, Okla., today.

KU’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional championships at the Oklahoma State course.

The men’s 10K will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K at noon.

The top two teams from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, with 13 other schools receiving at-large bids. The first four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Championships as well.

The Jayhawks ran on the OSU course Oct. 4 at the Oklahoma State Jamboree. The KU men finished third, led by freshman Benson Chesang, who placed second. The women finished ninth and were paced by junior Megan Manthe, who was 24th.

Chesang has led the men’s team in every race this year and was selected to the All-Big 12 Conference team after his 11th- place finish at the Big 12 Championships.
