Taylor McIntosh, a 5-foot-11 shooting guard from Wichita Heights High, has signed a national basketball letter of intent with Kansas University.

“If there ever was a player who could be considered a ‘sleeper,’ it would be Taylor,” KU coach Marian Washington said. “She has great size, strength and speed. It’s always great to sign one of the state’s best players.”

McIntosh has scored 1,032 points in her first three seasons at Wichita Heights. She chose KU after visiting Nebraska, New Mexico State and UTEP. She also considered Michigan.

“It was close, but not too close,” McIntosh told the Wichita Eagle. “And I was pleased with everything when I visited.”

McIntosh, who has averaged 14.3 points and 7.9 rebounds during her high school career, has led Heights to two consecutive Class 6A state titles.

Last season, Heights became the first Class 6A team to repeat as champions since 1988-89. McIntosh earned a spot on the state all-tournament team her sophomore and junior seasons, and was named MVP of the 2002 tournament.

As a junior last season, McIntosh was a first-team all-state selection and earned honorable mention on Street & Smith’s All-America team.
