County to recruit, train volunteer medical corps
The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department received a $50,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human services this month to develop a Medical Reserve Corps unit for the county.
The unit will recruit and train volunteer health professionals to respond to local public health needs and provide reserve capacity for area emergency response efforts. It will help strengthen existing community emergency medical response systems.
