Ex-KU chancellor honored by WVU

Former Kansas University chancellor Gene Budig was honored at a West Virginia University home football game last month.

Budig was WVU’s chancellor when the school’s 63,500-seat football stadium opened in 1980. Also honored was Sen. Jay Rockefeller, who was governor when the stadium was built.

“We have these two gentlemen to thank for building the foundation for greatness,” current WVU president David Hardesty said.

Budig, who is now on the faculty at Princeton University, was KU’s chancellor from 1981-1994.

Kansas University’s women’s golf team landed a local prospect when Annie Giangrosso of Overland Park signed a national letter of intent with the Jayhawks Wednesday.

Giangrosso is a senior at Overland Park Aquinas. She was the Kansas Class 5-6A state champion in 2001.

“We are thrilled to have Annie join our team next year,” KU coach Megan Menzel said. “She is a very experienced player and has had a great deal of success in the state of Kansas.”
