Raven schedules two author events

The Raven Bookstore has scheduled book events for the coming week.

On Tuesday, Kansas photographer Larry Schwarm, who teaches photography at Emporia State University, will give a slide show and talk before signing copies of his new book, “On Fire.” The free event will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church parish hall, 1011 Vt.

Kansas City mystery author Jill Churchill will read from and sign her book “Bell, Book and Scandal” from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Raven Bookstore, 8 E. Seventh St.

Area authors featured in poetry reading

Four area poets will read from their new books at 2 p.m. today during “George’s Poetry Hour” at Aimee’s Coffeehouse, 1025 Mass.

The free event, which features Denise Low, Silvia Kofler, Michelle Boisseau and Robert Stewart, is sponsored by the Kansas University English department.

Low teaches creative writing and American Indian studies at Haskell Indian Nations University. Her most recent poetry collection, “Thailand Journal,” chronicles Low’s trip to Thailand to visit her son.

Kofler’s first book of poems is called “From the Suburbs with the Wedding Dress in Its Coffin.” Each poem is written in both English and German.

Boisseau, associate professor of English at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, will read from “Trembling Air.” This is the third book of poetry for the associate editor of BkMk Press.

Stewart is editor-in-chief of New Letter, an international magazine of writing and art based at UMKC. He is also editor of BkMk Press and teaches writing at UMKC. His new collection of essays is called “Outside Language.”
