Calvary Temple Assembly of God

The new session of the New Believers Class began Sunday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace. It meets at 9:30 a.m. Sundays in the sanctuary, at the same time other Sunday school classes meet.

There are seven sessions, but those who miss a session can pick it up the next time the class is taught. A certificate is given to each participant at the end of each seven weeks.

Women’s Ministries will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Phyllis Prentice. Jennifer Street will give the lesson. For directions to the home, call the church at 842-6463.

A new Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall. The Rev. Marshall Lackrone will teach on the book of Colossians. Free study notes will be given out each night. The Bible study is open to the public.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

A Thrive Simulcast on the theme “Pursuing Purposeful Relationships” will be Nov. 15 at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway.

The event will feature eight speakers in one day. Cost is $32 per person. Call 843-7189 to register.

Tom and Twila Minter will share their experiences in Swaziland during the 6:30 p.m. Sunday worship service.

Deanna Taylor will teach a discipleship class, “Foundation Stones,” at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Ryan Berry, Amber Budenbender, Annie Lock, Joe Muiller, Leona Richling, Jaimie Sakumura and James Stewart will represent Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., at the National Catholic Youth Conference Thursday through Nov. 17 in Houston.

The students attending this biennial conference will be learning and celebrating with nearly 23,000 Catholic youth and adults.

Topics will include: forgiveness, Catholic identity, social teaching, global issues and diversity.

First Christian Church

“Plugged In,” a new group for men, will meet 10:15 a.m. Sunday at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Study topics include: “Who am I in Christ?,” “Being a Man of Prayer” and “Where do I Fit In?”

A young adult/adult bell choir will begin meeting from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Participants should have a basic knowledge of music notes and rhythm. For more information, call Dan Chisham at 843-3360.

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will have an adult health fair, “Coming Together for the Health of It,” from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend three different breakout sessions. Presenters are Marlaine Malone, stress management; Virgil Brady, “Knowing What to Say to Someone Who Is Ill”; Susan Krumm, nutrition for adults; Margo Gordon, end-of-life issues; and Allyson Leland, “Benefits of Volunteering.”

A blood pressure screening will also be provided.

Lawrence Evangelical Friends Church

Lawrence Evangelical Friends Church, 1601 N.H., will have its “Singsperation” event from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday.

This will be followed by a soup-and-chili dinner, a bake sale and craft sale from noon to 3 p.m.

Morning Star Christian Church

The Rev. Gregg Tipton will be the featured speaker at 10 a.m. Sunday at Morning Star Christian Church, 998 N. 1771 Road.

Tipton played quarterback at the University of Hawaii and serves as the international representative of Victory Campus Ministries, a ministry of Morning Star Church. He lives in Jacksonville, Fla., with his family.

The church will be host to a pancake feed after the 10 a.m. Sunday service.

Victory Campus Ministries recently received an Excel Award and a $10,000 check at the Christian Community Foundation’s annual dinner

Victory Campus Ministries, led by Erik Fish, received the award for excellence in evangelism for its Red Pill Forum program.

Plymouth Congregational Church

As part of the sesquicentennial celebration at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., the Rev. Dale Turner, Plymouth’s pastor from 1948 to 1958, will return to the pulpit at the 9:30 a.m. service Dec. 7.

There will be time to share a meal with Turner at noon Dec. 6. The meal will follow the Hanging of the Greens, from 9 a.m. to noon, and the Advent workshop, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Students in fifth and sixth grades will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sunfire Ceramics to make pottery and enjoy a potluck meal. For more information, call Cheryl Powers at 843-3220.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky., will have its annual fall dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The menu features turkey and all the trimmings. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 years and younger. Please enter at the church’s north entrance for the dinner.

Religious classes for all ages resume Sunday. Classes are from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The adult class is continuing a discussion of the papacy.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The Rev. Darrel Proffitt will begin a new, three-week sermon series, “Living Life Like a Champion,” during Sunday worship services at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Celebration Singer, the new, children’s worship team, will practice after the 9 a.m. Sunday service and lead the singing at the 10:45 a.m. service.

Senior high youth group will meet after the 5:30 p.m. Sunday service to discuss plans for the 2004 Centerpoint Mission Trip to Tennessee.

People interested in learning about spiritual growth and church membership are invited to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Small groups are continuing to form and meet at the church.

Trinity Episcopal Church

“Nearer Than You Might Think: World Religions in Douglas County” is the title of the 9:30 a.m. Sunday adult forum presented by the Rev. George Wiley at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Larry Schwarm will present a slide show and program about his new book, “On Fire,” from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parish hall. He will also sign copies of the book.

The annual Ploughman’s Lunch & Bake Sale will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the parish hall.

Soup, bread, cheese and apple pie will be served. Bake sale items include fresh, homemade pies, bread, cookies and candy. Handmade gifts by the members of Trinity Treasures also will be available to purchase.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The Rev. Susan Langhauser, pastor of Advent Lutheran Church of Olathe, will be the guest preacher for the “Gathering Sunday” worship services at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

Five new members will join the congregation during services, along with the ingathering of pledges. A potluck luncheon will be at noon in the fellowship hall.

The Rev. Don Conrad continues his teaching series on Luther, “What Was He Thinking?,” during the 9:45 a.m. adult discussion hour.

A communion coffee will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday. The women’s book study meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday to study the book, “How Much is Enough?”

The monthly workday on Wednesday will be devoted to making noodles for the annual holiday bake and craft sale. This year’s event, set for Dec. 6, will have a “Tannenbaum” theme and feature German foods.

West Side Presbyterian Church

A series of group meetings has been scheduled for members of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive, in connection with the “Ready to Share” Stewardship Campaign to fund church activities.

A breakfast meeting will be at 8 a.m. Sunday.

A dessert meeting for groups 2 and 3 will be at 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. A nursery will be provided as needed.

Those who cannot attend will be scheduled for a house call so that all pledges will be in for the dedication during worship Nov. 23.

The next Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen meal that church participants are asked to cook and serve is Thursday.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration, “An Intergenerational Program,” will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Donald Worster, distinguished professor at Kansas University, will present a program, “Productive Soils as the Basis for Past and Present Empires,” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by coffee and fellowship.
