De Soto boys advance to championship match

? The De Soto boys’ soccer squad advanced to the Class 4A state-championship game with a 1-0 victory Friday over Wichita Trinity.

Kyle Bray scored De Soto’s lone goal in the seventh minute, and the Wildcat defense made it stand up behind stellar play by goalkeeper Sean Karashin. Karashin had six saves, including a block of a deflected ball with just more than three minutes remaining that iced the victory.

“This guy had a tremendous game,” De Soto coach Mike Murphy said. “The defense really gutted it out tonight.”

The Wildcats (16-4) will play Andover (18-2) for the title at 2 p.m. today. Andover beat Kansas City Christian, 2-1, earlier Friday.
