The October meeting of the Jayhawk 4-H Club was called to order by Bridget Falley, president. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite costume.

The Jayhawk 4-H Club will celebrate its 75th anniversary with an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Grant Township Community Center. Community members and former members are welcome to join the festivities.

New officers were installed during the meeting. New officers are Dulce Schultz, president; Bridget Falley, vice president; Alyssa Golden, recording secretary; Andrea Williams, treasurer; Taylor Gray, junior president and junior recording secretary; Taylor Davis, junior vice president and junior treasurer; Aaron Trent, corresponding secretary; Jackie Hewins; parliamentarian; Casey Davis and Alyssa Golden, county council representatives; Andrea Williams, Brandon Williams and Bryson Hewins, recreation leaders; Kasandra Williams and Jackie Hewins, photographers; and Margaret Bireta, reporter.

The club discussed ideas for a holiday community service project. Record books were returned, and members signed up to serve on committees. The deadline for enrollment cards is Dec. 1 at the county extension office.

The club will have its achievement dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Grant Community Center.

• The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club met Sept. 8 at Stull United Methodist Church.

Club members discussed October’s National 4-H Week, the achievement celebration and moving the meeting time to 6:30 p.m. Members received recognition for their work during the Douglas County Free Fair.

Election of officers was postponed because of lack of attendance.

The Oct. 13 meeting was called to order by Josh Lesser, vice president. The club welcomed 23 new members and elected officers. Members were reminded about the hayrack ride and hot dog roast at the Schumann home and the 4-H achievement celebration Nov. 2.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Douglas County Extension Office, 2110 Harper St. The extension staff will present a program to help familiarize the club’s new members with what 4-H has to offer.

• Douglas County Family and Community Education in cooperation with K-State Research & Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is offering a program “Company’s Coming” from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St. There will be a small fee.

Individual FCE units will share ideas and recipes for dishes that can be prepared before parties and special occasions. Tips on decorating also will be offered.

• Kanwaka FCE will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Ann Haley. Mary James will give the lesson on “Minding Your Manners.”
