Bawanan, Pryor pace Jayhawks

? Kansas University’s women’s golf team finished 11th at the 18-team Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.

The Jayhawks shot rounds of 314, 308 and 322 for a total of 944 to end their 2003 fall season on the par-72 Oak Point Golf Course.

Notre Dame was first with an 892, followed by Texas Tech (908) and Kansas State (909).

“We felt like we had a rough performance,” KU coach Megan Menzel said. “We are looking forward to the offseason to get ready to practice for the spring.”

KU senior Jennifer Bawanan and sophomore Chelsey Pryor led the Jayhawks by earning a share of 28th place at 233. Freshman Jill Womble shot a 237, finishing in a tie for 48th. Freshman Amanda Costner and junior Meredith Winkelmann tied for 70th with 249s.

“I hope to enjoy my last semester at KU and to grow with my team,” said Bawanan, who had rounds of 78, 76 and 79. “I hope to improve, but I’m more concerned on how the team does. As a team, we’ve figured out what we need to do before the next spring.”

The Jayhawks will return to action March 1-2 at the Texas A&M “Mo”Morial in Houston.
