Emporia ? Free State High’s gymnastics team took second during the Class 6A regional meet Thursday at Emporia.

The Firebirds were led by senior Lacey Baxter, who was third in the all-around competition, second in floor exercise, third in bars, fourth in vault and fifth on the beam. Free State finished runner-up to Manhattan with 101.975 points.

Lawrence High, led by Chelsey Ornburn’s seventh-place finish in all-around, took fifth with 98.975 points.

Sara Hase took sixth in the beam for the Firebirds. In addition to Baxter and Hase, Kim Baker, Karen Kroge and Elena Zeitler will represent Free State in the state meet Nov. 8 at Newton.
